Connecting the Non-Traditional User-Community to the National CyberInfrastructure
This paper reports on a hands-on workshop that was organized to promote the usage of the National CyberInfrastructure (NCI) amongst non-traditional High Performance Computing (HPC) users. The majority of the workshop participants were students and professionals who had never used the NCI before but were interested in leveraging it for conducting computationally intensive Big Data management activities. With the support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), students from underrepresented groups were also funded to participate in the workshop, where they learnt about both the NCI and Big Data management. The workshop itself was an outcome of an XSEDE Extended Collaborative Support Service (ECSS) project that involved non-traditional HPC users from the archaeology domain.

On Fostering a Culture of Research Cyberinfrastructure Grant Proposals within a Community of Service Providers in an EPSCoR State
Prior to the early 2000s, Oklahoma institutions had a very limited history of submitting research Cyberinfrastructure (CI) grant proposals. But over the past decade, this trend has dramatically reversed: beginning in 2003, Oklahoma institutions have submitted 15 proposals for research CI, including eight National Science Foundation (NSF) Major Research Instrumentation Proposals, an NSF Experimental Program for the Stimulation of Competitive Research (EPSCoR) Research Infrastructure Improvement (RII) Track-2 proposal with a strong CI focus (jointly with Kansas), an NSF EPSCoR RII Cyber Connectivity (C2) proposal, and five NSF Campus Cyberinfrastructure proposals (one in 2013, two in 2014 and two in 2015). Of these 15 proposals, 10 have been awarded, 2 have been declined and three are pending, a record that far outstrips the state's Fiscal Year 2014 NSF average of 20%. The evolution of Oklahoma's approach, and the growth of the community of CI service providers in the state, are the focus of this paper.

Science Gateways For Humanities, Arts, and Social Science
In this paper, I describe some of my experiences as XSEDE’s Humanities Specialist and how they have led toward an effort within XSEDE to create a collection of Science Gateways that are tailored to the needs of various communities within the Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. This paper provides an update of that effort.
