Tutorial: MATLAB Hosting Program: Running MATLAB on XSEDE Resources and Scaling with Parallel Computing using a Hosted License Manager

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

In the past, MATLAB users have been required to use only their local cluster resources to run MATLAB. Recently, MathWorks has created a new initiative, the MATLAB Hosting Program, which allows HPC data centers to not only host hardware resources, but install MATLAB software to be made available to external users. In turn, MATLAB users can leverage their own license to be used at the data center. Both license requirements and as well as licensing options will be discussed during the tutorial.

The MATLAB Hosting Program has now been made available to XSEDE Resources, such as PSC, TACC, and SDSC and will be expanding to more sites in 2015. This will allow MATLAB users a multitude of compute resources to run the models and simulations, accessing remote hardware resources (e.g. GPUs) and large data sets. This tutorial will describe to campus champions and end users how to run MATLAB remotely as well as how to scale their code to run across multiple nodes using the Parallel Computing Toolbox and the MATLAB Distributed Computing Server. As each XSEDE Resource has different ways to run MATLAB, the tutorial will walk through how to submit to each of the sites.
